Commuter Benefits

What You Need to Know

Goodwin helps make getting to and from the office convenient, less expensive, and more sustainable with parking and transit benefits through VOYA Financial.

Parking and Transit Benefits

All U.S. offices can enjoy the convenience of paying for parking and transit costs through payroll deduction. By doing so, you can take advantage of the IRS monthly pretax commuter benefits available to eligible employees.

How It Works

Employees

  • Transit Deductions
    • New York and D.C. offices: Payroll deductions are pretax up to the IRS monthly pretax commuter benefits cap for transit ($325 in 2025). Any costs above the limit are deducted after-tax.
    • All other offices: Payroll deductions are made after-tax.
  • Parking Deductions: Payroll deductions are made after-tax for all offices.

Partners

Payroll deductions are made after-tax for both transit and parking.

How to Join or Make Changes

Access Workday at any time to join the program or make changes to your commuter elections. (You must be on the Goodwin network to access Workday.) Keep these deadlines in mind. If you make your election:

  • Between the first through the fifth of the month, benefits start the following month (e.g., August 5 election = September benefits).
  • Between the sixth through the end of the month, benefits start the month after next (e.g., August 6 election = October benefits).

After You Enroll

  • VOYA’s commuter VISA debit card will be mailed to the address listed in Workday.
  • Use the card to purchase transit passes directly from the transit system you use or to pay for parking.
  • Set up recurring payments with transit systems and parking vendors using your VOYA debit card.

Special Information About WMATA SmarTrip Cards

If you work in the D.C. office and make a transit election in Workday, you’ll get a welcome email from VOYA with information on loading funds to your SmarTrip card.

If your transit election is over the IRS limit, use the VOYA debit card to add extra after-tax funds to your SmarTrip card.

For detailed instructions check out the Commuter Quick Reference Card. (You must be logged on to the Goodwin network to access the document.)
